what do I do?

Hi everyone, new to this forum so hope you can help.Basically I had a flood in my bathroom, which went through into lounge.British gas fixed the problem due to plan I have with them. insurance man came, had a quick look, went off.eventually came back and said whole job would be 1500.
all systems gofloor replaced pipes sorted, here is the problem,I had these large plastic panels on the bathroom walls, and on the bath. the plumber we were using had heard of them, but didnt know how to source them,so I phoned the insurance company told them and they said go for tiles,I chose the cheapest I could find,I spoke to an adviser about the rest of the job,and now they are not going to pay up because it is not like for like, even though they said I could get tiles. They have since said they can source these plastic panels so makes our claim void,I am left with nothing to pay for the labour and a half finished house, whwre do I stand,whew...
Thanks for listening:)

Do you know who gave you authorisation to go for tiles?
    name? date? time?

If you are getting important information like this (authorisation to spend money) then ideally get it in writing (or ask for an email).
At the very least you need phone call details as they are often recorded, but it may be difficult for them to find your call without a date or time.

Have you told them it was authorised?
What have they said to that?
