eBay is testing a new shopping basket feature on ebay.co.uk, and now you can try it out for yourself !
All buyers can opt in to try this new shopping experience. Once opted in, buyers will also be able to opt out from the shopping basket page. Members may also be selected at random to test the feature.

We are excited about this launch and look forward to your feedback and suggestions. Do send us your comments through the "Send us feedback" link on the top right corner of your shopping basket page. With this test version, adjustments will be made regularly to implement members’ feedback.

The shopping basket will make it easier for buyers to:
  • Compare the total price of items
  • Take advantage of shipping discounts
  • Pay for multiple items from multiple sellers in one simple checkout flow
The basket supports both fixed price and auction-style listings from all eBay sellers in a single site-wide shopping basket experience. For fixed price listings, the “Add to basket” button replaces “Buy It Now” on the item page, and buyers have to check out and pay for the item in order to purchase it. Until the payment is made, the item can be purchased by another buyer.

opt in now to try this new feature!
Regards,
The eBay Team

Sounds like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

I notice a lot on the PS boards seemed to be clamouring for it.

And I have no idea why.

All this really does is make every buy it now instant payment, which obviously isn't what some sellers want otherwise they would have used it.

It's one of those ideas that they've pinched from everywhere else without realising that they are an auction site I think.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

thats nice for them. :D I'm just confused about the actual practical use (unless I misunderstand how it will work). Any BIN i purchase I pay for immediately. Why add it to some basket when you can purchase it immediately? confused0024.gif Any Auctions I normally pay just after auctions end. By using this shopping basket with things finishing at different times. All I can see it doing is delaying payment to the seller

I'm not sure I see the point of it and I have no idea why someone would be pleased about it, I agree that it seems like the solution to a problem which doesn't exist. My only question so far is if someone wants to buy one of my BIN listings and puts it in the basket then trots off looking for other things to buy, is my stock ring-fenced to them and for how long?

Also, what's happening to the postage on items? It used to be under a separate header next to 'Item Description' on the listing but now you have to click a linky up under the item cost iyswim.

I am having a vague day today, brain doesn't want to engage at all so the above makes little sense, I'm afraid!

More strange ebay changes for no reason at all.
As for your stock no it is not ring fenced in fact if you only have one of the item on buy it now and a buyer puts it in their basket another buyer could come along and buy it and pay for it straight away and the first buyers basket will lose your item.
I can for this reason see this causing a few problems not solving them mostly for sellers who sell using buy it now and do not hold a lot of stock just one or two of something.

I've updated all my listings to be 'instant payment' as we are moving at the end of Sept to a new premises and will have a 5 day shutdown. I can't be doing with any unpaids then (have had over 70 at one time). I may not put them back after the move, as it took me nearly an entire month to do it as Ebay has no bulk edit on adding this feature.

I always put immediate payment on my BINs I think for the buyer the clue should be in the name Buy it Now.:D
