Repairing Holes in Loft Roof Felt

Have done a search but most threads seem to be about repairing leaks.

I am planning to board the loft in our house and have noticed some of the existing insulation is very dirty. There a few holes in the felt underneath the roof tiles which is allowing leaves and dirt to get in. Looks like it's been like that for years to be honest. No sign of any water damage though. I'd like to fix the holes before I start laying cleaning out the loft and laying new insulation/boarding.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You shouldnt be getting much in teh way of dirt though a tear in the roof felt. Most likly its coming in from somewhere else such as the eves.

Replacing the felt will most likely mean stripping back the rooftiles to allow access to the felt and laths beneath them, ensure you have a source for identical replacement tiles as breakages can occur from either tiles being lifted or workmen causing some to crack whilst working up there.

Self adhesive " Flashband ", duct tape or stick a bit of felt on with something like " Roofers Mate " and not normal silicone which will react with bitumen
