Renewing home ins with 3 claims in 2 years

I have made 3 small claims in the last 2 years and received my renewal notice showing that my insurance had virtually doubled from £770 to £1400! On looking at comparison sites I have found that a number of the more well know companies won't insure me due to the number of claims. Having got over the anger, (what was the point of making a £300 claim for a lightning strike when it actually cost me £700!!), I am now genuinely concerned about my renewal believing I will have to sacrifice the level and quality of my cover until I get a "clean" track record again. The companies I can get insured with are relatively unknown eg smart people budget, Dial direct, homeprotect and endsleigh.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

sorry there is nothing you can do about the renew cost apart from look around your a high risk so have to pay more it is just the way it is
i would never make a claim unless it was due to a total lose of everything i had a small claims just cost you alot more in the long run
  • Thanks, I've definitely learned that lesson, just wish I had realised earlier!! Think the best option is to remove extras on my policy eg accidental contents, legal assistance etc and increase excess limits to a £1000 as I won't be making any small claims in the future!

I would increase the excess but would keep the accidental damage cover for home contents if you have any expensive items e.g. if you have an expensive sound system and paint got spilled on it, this should be covered as accidental damage. If you remove that cover then it would only be covered for fire and perils e.g. damage by storm or flood.

Depends on how you view the risk and how much you can save - if only £100 is it worth it?

You may also find you have legal assistance cover elsewhere - perk through work maybe?
