Strange deposit into account

I checked my current account this morning and was shocked to see that a deposit had been put in for £8550 and then a correction on the same day of a withdrawal of £8500 – I’ll be contacting my bank to inform them that the amounts are different. I just can’t believe the huge amount they put in my account by mistake!!

And what a shame the £8550 wasn't a gift, would help pay some debts off!!

  • More honest about the £50 than I would have been - I'd have just thought they left me the £50 as payment for using my account for the day, like a rental charge, and just would have spent it :)

this happened to my hubby only they didn't take the money out - we contacted the bank and they sent us a copy of the chq that was paid in, they were so thick, the chq was made out to a business. we called the bank and told them but they couldn't see the mistake even though i spelt it out and it was there in black and white in front of me. We wrote to the bank and got a standard letter saying thet would look into my complaint. Heard nothing, sent email to bank via howtocomplain.com and still nothing. this was over a year ago and we still have someone elses money in our acct. i have no idea what else to do after exhausting all avenues.

I can send you on my bank details if you don't want to "mind" the money any more...;) (honestly, that money was just resting in my acc...):rotfl:

It could be a gift but normally the bank would say so on the statement and parade it for you to see how nice and kind they are :p Best ctc them and ask about it - you may get something for compensation, £25 is standard normally. :D

Leave the money in the account.

I do not suggest leaving the money in the account. It is dishonest and more importantly is wrong. Phone the bank and find out what the whole thing is about ;)
