Wayleave payments - arguing with Western Power

Hi,
We have just moved into a house with 2 wooden poles in the garden supplying electricity to his house and the one next door.
We have been in touch with Western Power who agree that a wayleave payment is due and have sent us the appropriate forms.
We have not yet returned the forms, but in the meantime have been told verbally that any payment is only due to us from the date we moved in.
Our argument is that wayleave payments have never been paid to any houseowner here and we should receive all monies owing to the house for all arrears.
Does anyone have a view on this?

Will you be sending on the appropriate payment to the previous houseowner?0

If you read your agreement, you may find that you are entitled to request a removal of the poles. This may concentrate their minds. However they may also come back with the threat of a compulsory purchase order - which is a threat, no more.
The amount is probably only a fiver a year anyway. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -

Are you serious? Why on earth would should you receive money that isn't due to you? You expect to be paid the wayleave payment for a time when you didn't own or live in the house? Unbelievable!!!0 -
Whilst admittedly the poster may be trying their luck why shouldn't they? At least they own the property and either they benefit or the supplier does!
You could have a look at http://www.wayleave.co.uk/index.htm0 -

They don't need to bother with a CPO. They can use Schedule 4 of the Electricity Act and get a 'necessary' wayleave. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If you've just moved into a house I think you're doing well getting anything at all - I thought in many cases wayleaves ended when the original owner moves out?
If they're not paying you anything you could ask them to remove the pole and pay a wayleave to your neighbour

thanks for the replies - my wife has now returned the forms - even if it is £5 a year from now on, then that's better than nothing - a bottle of wine and a bag of peanuts!!
best wishes
