A strawberry question

Hi,
I planted quite a few strawberry plants this year - all in pots or hanging baskets. Initially I had fruit which was lovely.
Since then the plants are producing an enormous amount of runners with new plants. There are too many plants for me to plant them all and no fruit for ages! I know it is late now but if I cut all the runners off would I get more fruit and should I have done that before?
Thanks for any advice!

You won't get any more fruit but removing the runners keeps the original plant strong (so my mum says)

Do you use freecycle? I expect people on there would love some free strawberry plants, they could just come round and nip off the plantlets and i would think they would root up fine once they got home as long as they are big enough. We have an interesting setup with our strawberry planter and multiple little pots around it at the moment with runners attached, on the patio, and with a bbq this weekend not sure how I'm going to move it, probably time to "cut the cord" on them all!0
