ear infection?

hi,

Ive had my Cavalier King Charles puppy for 5 weeks now and weve had terrible problems with her stomach. She constantly had the runs and is now on a strict wheat free diet after various appointments at the vets. Problem is this. Her food had to be changed recently again so we were back on the boiled chicken and rice. She is almost weaned onto the new food however has been taking it with the boiled rice for one week now and her ears now stink! She has been bathed recently so its not a cleanliness issue but i did read somewere that it could be a yeast infection caused by eating to much carbohydrate?

My question is this. Can you treat a yeast infection yourself or is it something you need to go to the vets for? If im back at the vets this week hes going to think im some kind of crazy woman!

Thanks in advance!

  • Try Thornit Powder. My lad suffers so badly with both his ears and each time we went to the vets they just gave him antibiotics for a week, then it would come back.

SOmeone I know in Rescue suggested Thornit and its cleared both ears up x

Have you spoken to the breeder about all this? Is your pup insured?

Thornits is used for mites really, I wouldnt be fiddling about with a puppy's ears without getting a proper diagnosis. Im sure the vet wont mind, you are paying him arent you.

No one here can really give veterinary advice so I'd have a word with your vets give them a ring. Ear infections if not treated properly can get nasty especially in breeds like CKC (due to the type of ears).

Agree with above but would suggest you try a grain free diet.

With a young pup I'd definitely take veterinary advice 1st, as infections knock them off their paws so rapidly.

I use Quistel ear cleaner when mine show signs of irritated ears (it is totally natural & does a great job)
