The council say they have instructed their bin men to only pick up "their" sacks on not others, due to it being a cost effective measure etc.
That is their way of charging you for the service.

Phew, I'd like to comment on each of your replies if I may.

    1) I hadn't thought of it as not being household waste.

    2) there was a compost bin here, and I have to say we could fill two a week and as they take ages to do their stuff, that wasn't a great deal of help.

    3) we have hired three skips so far at a cost of £155 each, two of them were for overgrown garden stuff. Plus we have hired a tree surgeon to remove two trees and severely prune several others. I can't remember how much he was, but reckon it was about £300.

    4) as for the previous regime, black bin fortnightly for general household stuff, brown fortnightly any garden stuff, green fortnightly for plastic, cardboard, paper etc No extra charge for this.

    5) freecycle, I have recently removed myself from that due to problems. Each time I requested something, I would get an email from either of three people saying something like ", oh I've just thrown one away, but if you go to such a such website and join them, they might be able to help you". Clearly naughty because if they were true recyclers, they wouldn't be throwing away everything you asked for.

6), I have emailed the council to see if they have bye-laws regarding bonfires already.

So, without wishing to appear smart, I think I have answered each of you.

you say the brown bin was provided at no extra charge before?
Im sure it would have been factored into your council tax bill so you would have paid for it.

Just burn it. As long as you let your neighbours know in advance there will be no problem with smelly washing or open windows.

Without being smart, you only have 3 options,

    Pay for sacks
Take it to a recycling center
    Burn it.

its up to you to choose which one you go with.

Our council is fantastic in this respect. We get a black bin collected fortnight for general waste, a grey bin for garden waste and cardboard etc, blue box for metal and plastic and a red box for paper collected on the alternate fortnight to thermal bins. All free and part of your normal collections.

Not free, it is paid for,(by you), in your council tax.

we have reuseable garden bags, we have 4 that we put out and its collected fortnightly

we have clear plastic recycling bags which we can pick up free from schools or librarys or if we phone the council they will deliver

and we still put out black bags for rubbish, which the foxes and cats get at sometimes

Our council (Birmingham) provide Green sacks and black sacks for free, but we only get one roll about every 3/4 months.

We always run out of Black sacks before the next drop and so have to buy more. The green sacks though, we always have an abundance of.

Although the bin men will take other types of green sacks such as ones from poundland.

The black sacks are collected every week and the recycling is rotated every fortnight between the green sacks and the paper/cardboard/plastic.
