I bought one of the Carlton pressurised Irons after a few days of the thread starting. It reminds me of one of those wall paper stripping machines where you basically have a store of water being boiled and the steam being forced down a tube to the end in this case an iron plate. Its fast, but you have to have the ironing organised and ready to go as its constantly 'on the boil'. there's a flick switch on the iron to release the steam, but sometimes you just want to quickly move something without flicking the switch. There's 6 downsides:
    1) No indicator level
    2) Sometimes it leaves big wet patches on clothes -havent worked out why yet and most clothes are quite damp after
    3) Very hot drops of water falling from iron onto my bare feet- luckily by the time its got to them its not boiling.
    4) Drips falling off the underside of the ironing board too!
    5) And its quite a big heavy device, takes up a lot of room.
    6) Horrible burning rubbery smell.

Still, I'll give it a few more weeks and see how it goes !

Have to agree with everything you have written. I have had mine for a few weeks now and not that impressed. Every time I try to use the steam feature my clothes end up soaked! It is also really bulky and I can only put it away after it has cooled completely as the iron holder I have for my last iron obviously is too small! I wouldn't recommend it unless you have loads of ironing all the time, otherwise it isn't really worth the extra hassle imo.

That's odd because mine has started leaving my ironing wet now as well..3 weeks old..wonder if some residue is building up?

Incidentally, is this clearance intended to coincide with a large scale refurbishment throughout the DSG group?

Warrington PC World is closed, under refurb, with most of their stock next door in Curry's.
Macclesfield Curry's has half the store hidden behind ceiling-high fibre-boards, with workmen beavering away behind.
Has anyone else spotted refurbishment in their local Curry's/PCWorld?

The PC World in Stevenage was done up a year or so ago, I think it was one of the first to switch to the new format. And now the Currys has been changed into a Currys Meagastore and sells almost us much PC stuff as PC World so I'm surprised they are both still open.

Were looking at the 22" LCD DVD Tv for a christmas present.

Its unclear about the 'refurbished' side of things, if i buy from Amazon it tells me whats wrong with it 'Grade A/As New' etc, but on Currys its pretty vague.

Does anyone know what Currys Refurbished means? Is it returned, tested, fixed & as new, or will it contain user faults, marks, blemishes.

A bit of a pain, as its a postal item and returning via the mail can be a little difficult.

Thanks for this post, I was going to get some items delivered but thought I'd visit the new store anyway. I picked up a hand blender for £4.18 ( very useful, mine packed up ages ago and I've had to borrow ever since ). didn't save me much money though, I spent another £40 on a new laptop bag ha ha!!

Have to say though, the new store is absolutely massive. I daren't let me husband loose in there, all those nice new electrical things!

  • Had intended to buy one of the wonderful Samsung laptops all over tv ads and newspapers in Curry's BIG sale!!! they don't appear to exist. from the first ad I tried every day to reserve one. I live in Scotland so duly put in my nearest store.. not available to reserve and collect and not available for delivery. From there,, expanded my search to every shop in the UK, including Ireland,, just for curiousity.. NONE OF THE STORES HAD THEM! I tried from last Thursday until Tuesday, the dates they allegedly were offering this, These ghostly laptops are still in the ether. I suppose they had one or two in one of their London stores, just to ensure it wasn't false advertising.:mad::mad:

well if this helps..i purchased one a few years ago when they were on special..n now i know why...kept playing up..not charging etc...i think it spent more time going to n fro to samsung repair centre than actually online!...after lots of threats of me seeking legal action (mostly towards curry's!) i ended up getting all my money back...ended up going to tesco's!!!:D
u might end up having to do the same!!
im tray not davey...pinched my hubbys account!!!

I must stop buying smellies..well until i spot a bargain!
never turn a bargain /freebie down you just never know when you need it :D

Can I be honest, I bought a couple and had gone against better advice from 'IT' people that told me that these retailers sell a sort of 'last year' model, I certainly don't know if thats true at all but have bought one out of four laptops in places other than 'high street' and know where I would buy again.

I don't want to rock the boat but I do know you can buy better models for similar prices from other places, I know it would be wrong to post details here for obvious reasons, but basically after having my current laptop for a year and having issues with it ( after buying 3 in previous years ) I know where I would go again.

Hope this makes sense! PM or post if not but I do think that there are many other places to buy.

  • just been to( currys pc world) electrical clearance merryhill . i bought sagem freesat HD recorder £79 .97 BARGAIN ? went to currys next door £200 same product ..

    WHY ?
  • Went to Currys the other day and bought a HP Photosmart Premium printer with Photosmart black ink and HP Photo Value Pack (3 x ink cartridges and 100 x glossy photo paper). I was told that if you buy all of this together it goes through the system cheaper! Printer was priced at £199 and cartridges as £50, not advertised as reduced. When it went through the till it came up as £99 for the lot, saving £150!! Printer scans and photocopies as well. BARGAIN!!:rotfl:
