Hi can anyone advise, I am due to go on a package holiday to palma nova majorca booked through cosmos. I saw in the news yesterday there might be a strike with air traffic controllers. I saw on the internet the strike might start on the 18th. I fly out on the 19th Aug for 7 nights. I've never been through this before is there something I should do? Also if for example if there was a flight delay and i couldn't fly out until 20th would i still have to come home on 26th? Please help

If yu have booked through Cosmos can i suggest you contact them first

Pack plenty of sandwiches and eats when you go to the airport, you will still have to check in at your normal time but your flights may experience long delays.....
The ATC's in Spain have been living a millionaire type life style some have been earning 800K Euros a year, but on average they earn 240K a year. With the cut backs in Spain they had to take a pay cut but are still earning twice as much as ATC's in the UK.0 -
Thanks i will try cosmos, although not hearing much on the news at the mo?0

On a package you would usually come back on the scheduled day. There is usually an option to cancel without charge if you are delayed by 24 hours or more. However you should check with the terms of your package and your travel insurance to see if this applies in the case of strikes.0

Hi Deeb,
I rang Ryanair yesturday as we are flying out to spain on the 12th and back on the 19th with them.
I was told that they have been told there are plans to hold a one day strike on the 18th. Haven't been able to find anything definate to confirm this on the news websites yet, but hopefully if true flights will be starting again on the 19th.

UPDATE.
MADRID (AFP) – The union representing Spain's air traffic controllers will meet on Thursday to decide whether to go ahead with a strike over working conditions,
This means any walkout, which could disrupt flights at the peak of the tourist season, would not take place until at least August 22 as the union must give a formal 10-day warning .
Good news for me Im back 20th. Hope it is for others .0 -
