ESA for Hepatitis B - Notifiable disease

‘You have a notifiable disease or have been in contact with someone with a notifiable disease’

https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2524233

Can one claim ESA when suffering from Hepatitis B and taking antiviral medicine?

Does this exempt from medicals?

Would they be in Work Related Group or Support Group?

Thanks

  • if your gp signs you off as sick then yes,as for which group thats only a decision after the medical following 13 weeks of claiming, and i cant see any reason why it would mean an exclusion from a medical

A person suffering from a notifiable disease is treated as having limited capability for work which means they do not have to satisfy the Work Capability Assessment test - meaning that, amongst other things, they do not have to attend a medical.

Because it's a criminal offence to expose people to infection if you have a notifiable disease and ultimately if you attempt to expose people to the disease you can be imprisoned under public health acts!

As such people in this situation do not have to prove they have limited capability for work.

No. ESA & DLA medicals are different and are for different benefits.
