billboard on the side of my house??

I think I have a good location for a billboard on the side of my house, but would like to know if anyone has any experience with the amount of income that can be generated and the term of the lease I will have to sign into? What happens if I sell the property??
The wall in question faces a main road with a large amount of passing/commuting traffic towards Sheffield city center.
Any information would be great!!
Thanks!!

You need advertisement consent form the City Planners for a start - they may not be happy with it, depending on the location.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
Seconded. Planning dept at your council will be your first port of call.....
You could also broach the subject with those who already maintain similar billboards in your area and around the country - Clear Channel comes to mind as one I've seen. If you offer to lease them the space, they may take care of all the consents, etc. Look for names on the boards themselves.0 -
Thanks for the replies,
I have spoken with the local authority's and there are happy with the idea, as long as the billboard doesn't show Alcohol,Adult Content,Tobacco.
I was wondering if anyone had experience with the rates the national companies pay, the length of lease or any info before I approach them.
Thanks again0 -
Do you own land to the side of the house? It can be quite lucrative, especially considering that you do nothing, It should provide a good couple of thousand a year, but it does depend on it's location.
I used to work for Clear Channel many moons ago. I should remember more!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Don't forget that you need Advertising Consent (not planning permission). To erect an advert without consent is a criminal offence, with potentially very high penalties - and the Council can prosecute anyone involved in the ad, namely the person whose land it is on, the company it is advertising, and the person who erected the advert. Thanks for the replies,

Although you say you have spoken to the 'authorities' - that's irrelevent - you still need to apply for Advertisement Consent.0 -
IIRC, in the last few years I saw a house on rightmove that had a billboard on the side of it (not sure of location, North West somewhere) and that was generating 200-300 pcm0
