Hi,

I have a small area beside my chimney breast where I will be adding a TV, Wii an Virgin box. I have a 4 gang surge protector adapter, but the lead is really long and uses up a lot of space. Is it safe to cut the lead shorter and replug?

Many thanks,
C

Or even better, does anyone know where I can buy a good short 4 gang. There are ones in Poundland, but I wouldn't trust them. (The lead that is). I think it is 30cm length.

I remember the good old days when all applicances came without plugs fitted!

I spent hours in my youth messing with electrical items, replacing iron cords, making extension leads etc. Looks like fitting a plug is another disappearing skill.

    Yep, me too

These days 2 yards of iron flex will cost more than a new iron from Tesco. That's progress

Those of us who still 'play' with cables , have at least a chance of taming the mess behind our PC's

All electrical items in the UK have technically got to be at a minimum safety standard, so even the Poundland extension leads are fine.

Just don't overload them - ie don't put another extension lead on it etc!

All the items you mention (TV, Wii, V+ box) don't draw that much current so you should be fine.

My local ironmonger will, they have a brass measure screwed to the bench !
A few weeks ago I bought 2 little brass screws in there - 2p each - brilliant shop !!! Could only get a b****y bag full in Focus for £2.50 !

Sorry for the delayed reply. I think I will go ahead and shorten the cable length myself.

    Thanks everyone!
