2 lots of holiday insurance???

We get free worldwide holiday insurance from M&S which is great but my husband had a torn cartilage 3 years ago and had keyhole surgery. M&S won't cover him for this. We weren't bothered by this for Europe but are now going to America and think it should be covered.
So can we take out single trip insurance for him covering his knee? And if we wanted to claim for anything else use the M&S one which is more generous. Also if anything did happen and he had to go to hospital claiming on the other insurance, I would need to claim on the joint M&S cover for hotel costs but would they say no as they didn't cover the knee injury.
Tried ringing M&S for help but they weren't interested.

Assuming you can find an insurer (shouldn't be that difficult) then you can take out a single trip policy for him. It won't be knee specific - it will be general.
It does have the potential for problems if there is a claim not relating to the knee - the two insurers may argue about splitting the claim between them - but better than not being insured..0
