What is Morecambe like?

We normally spend our holidays in Devon and Cornwall but we are experiencing the delights of Morecambe next week for the first time so I would appreciate your experiences of the attractions and any suggestions.
We know Blackpool and the Lake District are within driving distance but what else would be worthwhile looking out for?
We are 2 adults with a 6 year old girl.
Thanks in advance ...

We live in the East Midlands.
My parents live in Kendal, just outside the Lake District. When ever we go and visit them I alway make time to go to Morecambe. I have 2 boys (12 and 3).
We always go to Happy Mount park.
It has a great new adventure play area and a fantastic new water/ splash area, with loads of jets of water spraying in to a very shallow paddling pool. A train, swing boats and trampolines.
Then we go down to the beach....
It's ok as long as you don't look back towards the "shops" and "amusements". Ther is also a statue of Eric Morecambe on the seafront.
I hope this helpsSlimming world new starter 2/1/17:D:DWeight loss so far 5 stone 8 lbs

Thankfully Morecmabe is close enough to much nicer places, so you have plenty to do.
The public realm work on the seafront (including the Eric Morecambe statue) and the new Midland Hotel are excellent, but the southern end of the sea front and the town centre are the pits.0 -
We quite often stop in Morecambe on our way down south from Scotland. It has a nice pier with floor mounted bird games to play on it, Happy Mount Park has cheap crazy golf to play as well as the other things mentioned by shipr!!!95. Everything is pretty cheap here. It has Ten Pin Bowling and cinema and the beach is ok. There isn't enough to do for a week though. Lancaster is right next door which has quite good shops, castle and Williamson Park which has a butterfly house. Kirby Lonsdale is a lovely little town not too far away.
Hope you have a nice time.Mar Wins :- £2 GfK Media

You wouldn't want more than a day in Morecambe... if that. As another poster said, Happy Mount park is fun if the weather is nice, but apart from that, not much. It's still very tacky and dated on the sea front. There are plenty of things to do in the South Lakes area, including the brilliant White Scar Caves and Waterfall at Ingleton your six year old would love those I'm sure! x0

Happy Mount park is brilliant for the kids, our kids love it there and you can easily spend half a day there (if the weather is nice!!) The shops etc are a little run down now but the front is very nice now.
Its in a prefect position as like you say its 30 mins to Blackpool or the Lakes so you can spend 3 or 4 daus staying in Morecambe but visit other places on each day. Heysham is only 2 mins down the road and is a really nice village to walk around and go on the beach.0 -
I agree about Lancaster, Williamson Park is great if you get a good day for it.
If you're looking to go slightly further afield in the Lakes, can I suggest The World of Beatrix Potter at Bowness-on-Windermere - I used to love it there when I was younger. You could also do a boat trip on Windermere as well.
The National Trust has lots of places to visit in the Lakes and North West: http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-property-searchresults_2.htm?type=advanced&area=North+West&county=&aday=&amonth=&ayear=&bday=&bmonth=&byear=&ptype=&alttype=&facilities=&submit2=Submit
If you're prepared to drive for about an hour and a half I'd recommend Rufford Old Hall and Speke Hall."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0
