lovefilm/screenselect search criteria for free trials, list them here:

  • Bump post.

In terms of the criteria for getting free trials (and associated freebies) what are the pitfalls? One of the problems seems to be that a lot of the DVD programmes "fronted" by High Street names are actually run by Lovefilm itself - so if you try to sign up to what you think are different companies you are not - and you don't get the offer.

Has this got worse now that Lovefilm/Screenselect are the same company?

Does anyone have a list of the other companies with offers, please?

The best Lovefilm offer running currently appears to be on this MSE thread:

    Any others going?

I managed to get a 3 month free trial with Tesco by using a promotional code someone posted a few weeks ago. Tesco do their rentals through lovefilm, which I had used for a free trial before, so I simply used my work address and it went through. Of course, as I'm the boss, no-one questions why I keep getting sent lots of DVD's from Tesco!!!

On other thing that might be helpful. I have a couple of 'spare' email addresses that I use for most of my online stuff that might involve me getting sent junk mail. It means that my 'main' email account is kept mostly junk free and it's also been a good way of getting around number 1!! A lot of companies don't allow hotmail addresses any more, but I can recommend https://www.mail.com as a alternative.

  • i once sent 2 discs back in the same envelope to lovefilm (it says to try fit in 4 discs into 1 envelope) they updated my list for 1 disc in that envelope but not for the second disc...which isnt possible how could dey not receive both of the discs at the same time? i checked after 5 days and it still hadnt been updated!

    That's happened to me twice...

There are many possible reasons for this...For example:

    1) Envelope accidentally ripped open during transit; one dvd falls out.
    2) Envelope deliberately ripped open during transit; one dvd is taken out.
    3) DVD rental company trying it on, claiming they didn't receive a disc.

    However, there is of course:
    (4) A completely innocent, genuine and feasible explanation which my imagination is too wild to figure out :p

When this happened to me, I simply reported the DVD lost via the lovefilm helpdesk, and filled out a few details (like date, time and location of posting) which cleared it from my list of outstanding discs.

    Regards.

  • I did trials with both Love Film and Screen Select earlier this year. After I moved house in March I got more free trials. For SS. Used my flatmate's name, different card, different email and of course, new address. For LF, didn't even bother with using a different name and email.

I actually liked LOVEFILM. Screen Select, however, were crap, well their customer service anyway. I ended up being charged £14.99 after my free trial even though I sent the DVDs back a week beforehand. And at the time the tariff I chose was £9.99, not £14.99!

    Same here...Plus I never got my top-titles.
