I'm going into my 4th year in september. Last year i worked around 30 hours a week with 2 jobs, 20 in one (7am starts and 10pm finishes) and 9 in a local supermarket, and the year before about 25 hours. And i've still came out with my degree this year.
    k

But you did only scrape through one module!

For most people, it's not just a question of getting a degree but of getting a decent grade - a third's not much use to anybody!

I work about 20 a week while at Uni and still have a life and it didn't effect my studies, but I don't watch TV or anything i.e waste excessive time, 2 of my flatmates watch Jeremy Kyle everyday; I'd go to work:p

    Hi,

I am also a 'mature' student (27 years old), and have similar aims of achieving a 2:1 or a First. I have just completed my first year of my course, and managed to achieve good results in my modules this year whilst working 23 hours a week, earning between £1000 - £1200 per month.

One thing I would definitely suggest is a job that is flexible with hours, and will let you work extra hours during the summer months, in order to save for term time. I also think it may be possible to do around 25 hours a week for your foundation degree, and first year, but the second and third years are more important, and fewer hours may be advisable

Think i'm gonna stick with my 23 hours for second year and see how it goes, but I can see myself cutting down as the work load increases.

    Good Luck!!

    Alec

This seems a lot. Taking the first example of 24 hours a week and earning £1000 a month, that works out at ~£9.62/hour. What were you both doing?

I am just about to go into 3rd year at university and for the last 2 years have worked 18 hours per week in a local bank - my hourly rate is £10.41 however i have been there for almost 10 years. It is possible to earn that amount on a part time job. I am hoping that i can continue to work 18 hours per week until i graduate. I have a 2 yr old daughter to support so work is not just an option for me - it is an absolute must!

I'm a travel agent in a call centre, and don't have an hourly rate, just earn commission only, with no basic pay. I average around 1000 a month term time, and more in summer as it's busier and can do more hours, including working from home. Suppose if I didn't have experience in this type of job it would be difficult to earn that amount in these hours but i've been working in travel for 8 years :)
  • Most uni's don't reccommend working more that 16 hours per week. I certainly couldn't work 25 hours per week whilst studying full time - it takes me all my time to get one flippin essay done!

16 hours is the max most unis recommend.

Theres approx 33 weeks of uni a year

So thats 16 x £5 (bare minimum wage)
    £80 x 33 £2640

Then theres the holidays 3 weeks at christmas say you manage 30 hour weeks

    30 *5 = 150 = £450 for the 3 weeks

And then theres approx 16 weeks in the summer I have a good job and earn £400 a week- But say you earnt half that

    £200 * 16 = £3200

So technically you could earn £6290.
