Non-Paying bidder - ignoring emails

Hello I recently got a bidder who won one of my items. The price she won the item with seems to be a couple of quid above the average of what the selling at generally. Me is thinking she realised this and now don't want to pay. She has a perfect feedback 5/5 and I looked today and she just got a positive feedback from another seller saying that she's paid. So my dilemma is do I give her a negative feeback at the risk of getting one red one back ?

Another thing eBay took there fees from this item, am I entitled to this back?

How long has it been since the auction finished? I would usually suggest that assuming you sent your end of auction e mail out on day 1, that you send a polite reminder on about day 7 and possibly start the FVF no earlier than day 10.

There is also the possibility that if you have sent reminders that your mail might be stuck in her junk mail folder, so I would normally send one e mail via the ebay system 'ask user a question' just in case. If it was a higher price item it might be worth giving the buyer a call by phone.

Assuming you've done all that then you can start the claim to get your final value fees back, the link is on the left hand margin of your personal ebay page. You can start the process at any time after 7 days from the end of the auction, and after a further 7 days has elapsed you can complete the claim and ebay will give you back the final value fees. You've lost the listing fees though unfortunately.

One final word of caution, make sure you have tried all avenues to contact your bidder as at any point she is still able to leave you negative feedback. At this point I was also suggest that you don't leave your own negative feedback as that stops any possibility that you will get paid and also the buyer is likely to retaliate.

  • thanks, it was last Sunday when the auction ended (30th Jan). I guess I am just used to quick payers as everyone else has paid right away or the day after. I'll see how it goes.
  • I have two items like that at the moment. Both finished on Jan 30th, I've now sent two invoices and an email to each of them and neither have responded or paid.

With one of them they are a new bidder with 0 feedback and so I don't expect him to pay. The other one had 700-odd feedback all positive so I expect him to pay. I'm just waiting for day 7 to start NPB process

If she has elected to send you a cheque you might not see it until this week at least. I always find paypal payers pay immediately. Those that choose to pay by cheque seem to take a week to think about it, then with the postal services and the fact that a second class letter can easily take three or four days you are well into the second week.

It wouldn't hurt though to wait until Monday and send her a polite reminder.

You are way way to prompt, see my earlier response, you can't even expect to see a letter with a cheque for days.

What always amuses me though is that the slower they are to pay the quicker they want their item! Virtually all my buyers use paypal and I ship usually within 24 hours. However, cheque payers seem to hang around then start asking where their item is even before I actually get their cheque. Drives me crazy.

I had one just recently that I thought wasnt going to even contact me,I only take paypal so no waiting for cheques,I pulled her contact details (gives you the phone number) this sends her an email saying basically that the seller has pulled the contact details and giving them yours.I didnt need to contact her though, she paid next day.
She had good feedback and had bid on similar items to mine so I wondered at the time wether she had bid on 2 and won them both(it was a set of books) but she came through in the end.She left me good feedback too.
I think some people dont see the need to do everything straight away, they live a more laid back existence :(

Or they might just wait until they get paid or get the money.
