Anyone carried out debit card chargeback ?

Hi .

Owing to me having a bad experience with an online "company" , i have now lost the sum of £55 from my debit card account.

I gave my details to this company thinking they were legit and it now appears that they are not .

I took all the usual precautions of stopping my debit card etc and i have now been to my bank (Ulsterbank) to initiate a chargeback .

The bank has been more than helpful , they immediately (whilst i was in the branch) telephoned their fraud dept who state that they have heard of this very thing happening before involving the very same items (it was a company selling ghd hair straighteners who i am having an issue with).

Because of this the fraud dept have said that my chargeback will be granted. I didnt think to ask though how long the chargeback process takes from start to finish so i am hoping to get some feedback from posters on here.

If you have successfully carried out a chargeback (using any bank) on your debit card , how long did it take befor the money was returned to you ?

Thanks in advance.

It depends on the position of the bank, some will refund you immediately while the dispute is ongoing, others will make you wait.

The maximum time for dispute resolution is 6 months, if the merchant does not contest the charge with evidence it will take a few weeks at most.

It will depend if RBS make you wait til resolved or refund you upfront.
Here is a Visa guide to the process.
This is assuming you've got a Visa Debit Card.
