windows defender turns off antivirus

Whenever i run a scan with windows defender halfway through it seems to stop scanning for about a minute, turns off macafee antivirus then carries on with the scan. It seems to stop on file cwindows 32 ms mask 32ocx if that means anything.
I have tried reinstalling defender and other anti spyware programs don't throw up any problems.
Anyone have an idea as to the problem.
