Help! Problem with computer

My laptop has had a major glitch. Some of the problems are:

I cannot open my outlook express, it keeps asking for an identity?
The home page on explorer is msn.com and I cannot change it whatever I try (tried changing home page in properties, but still stays as msn.com)
All the favourites in explorer have disappeared
This site is not appearing properly - it appears very lowq tech

Anyone any ideas as to what is going on and what I can do to fix it. I have run anti-spyware and anti-virus but it has found nothing

Thanks for your help.

  • do you have zonealarm installed?

if these problems have just started, you could try a system restore.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Thanks for the suggestions. I used to have zonealarm installed but it slowed things up so much surfing the net was impossible, so I got rid of it. As for system restore all the back ups I had seem to have disappeared.

Any other ideas as to what might have caused this

    Thanks
  • The reason I asked about zonealarm is that there was a bug in a recent version that stopped you changing the homepage, it's now been fixed in the latest version.

Do you have the windows firewall enabled instead?

You could try start, run, cmd
chkdsk c: /F /R , then reboot, to see if there is any hard disk corruption.
