Com Port Drivers - Not recognised

Below is a problem I posed on the Packard Bell website awhile ago, as of yet no one has picked up on it so still in the same boat. I have bought an external modem and it works fine but I am peeved that the internal modem is defunct.
Hi,
I have just inherited a PB 'igo' VERSA E400 from my son. The problem is that I cannot connect to the internet as the Com Port has apparently lost its drivers. The modem is enabled and the report says the device is working properly.
He has had the HDD formatted prior to handing over so there is no hidden partition to reinstall the drivers from a reboot nor did he make a Recovery CD (plonker), all I am left with is the recovery cd that was supplied with the machine. Are there drivers on this? If not is there anything I can do to get the com ports to see the modem?
I am running Win XP and as of yesterday SP2 was installed.
Your help will be appreciated.

You don't say what drivers you are using for your modem. Here is a link to the Packard Bell Support Site. I don't have this machine or modem so I can only guess as to the accuracy.

The link has a little picture of an MDC card that can help you identify the modem markings. The driver is for a Billionton MDC56S-I.
J_B.
PS NEC also did a VERSA 4000. There site might be an alternative to consider.0 -

Joe B,
Many thanks for this, will let someone more techie than me move things and install it. Call me Mister Silly but did not think to go onto support, it got all sorts of goodies on there. May the force be with you. Hopefully all my problems solved in one day.
Best wishes,
