Hi guys,

What are the best sites to use for booking hotels in America? Lastminute.com, Hotels.com etc don't seem to have as much choice as I was expecting. Is there a more.. native equivilent?

Thanks!

hotels.com should have the full range. Also try orbitz.com and expedia.com

    https://www.travelaxe.com is a good option.

Also, look on the chain websites. Hilton, Marriot etc. They have a wide range of different chains that cater from basic to "reet posh"
  • Priceline is also advertised in the States.

We have always got good, cancellable rates through the hotel chains websites, as mentioned above: Marriott, Hilton (includes Hampton Inn which seem to be EVERYWHERE!), Holiday Inn, Country Inn and Suites. Each of the hotel chains seems to include about 8 different brands that serve a different niche of the market.

The downside of booking through Expedia etc can be that you can't cancel them. Most of the US hotel chains allow you to cancel up to 24 hours before arrival without penalty.

When visiting USA i tend to use the following sites ... ..

    Booking.com
    Hotels.com
    Travelrepublic
    Alpharooms
    Hotwire.com
Direct with the hotel and pay in $$

    Enjoy your holiday!! :D

Booking direct with the hotel - or through their chain website - has always worked for me. Joining their loyalty scheme may give free nights - maybe not until the next trip, but worth having. Booking through an agent you often get the same rates - but no points.

Excellent point. Hilton seem to be having big sales at the moment. It's almost as though one of it's chains are on sale every week.

I use to fly over and not bother with points when I lived in the UK. Moved over here now and work away alot constantly using Hilton. I've totaled about 400,000 points. About half of which I've spent. 8 nights in Phoenix / Palm Springs are free with points.
Plus, when booking with points you tend to get upgraded more.

    Hilton all the way!

I agree - but the Hampton Inn arm of Hilton.

We used them as an overnighter in Kamloops, Canada and were so impressed with the standard of hotel we got for the price we booked them for 6 nights in Seattle this July. Very impressed once again, no doorman in a posh uniform, and it didn't have a fancy restaurant, but it had everything else a higher end hotel would have...

but was $100 a night cheaper than the other 4 stars.:)

We booked with the hotel's own website, but did use tripadvisor as a quick comparison.

Lots of Americans love Priceline, there are bargains to be had if you're only staying a night or two. It only guarantees a class and area for the hotel though, I'm not ready to risk that just yet to save a few bucks, but to each their own.
