Removals - full packing service - any tips for the day?

Not sure if this has already been covered, but remember to keep back things like hoover, cleaning equipment, kettle, tea bags, milk, sugar, mugs, toaster, cutlery etc. Packers will start at one end of the room and pack _everything_ as they go. I remember my first move, where I unpacked at the other end to find a broken lightbulb and a wingnut:eek:
I'm hoping to move in the next few months myself, and wil be using a packing service. One thing that I thought of was to sort of "ring fence" an area (bathroom perhaps?) & leave everything in there that you don't want packing - it's easier to say to the firm not to pack anything in "x" room that way."Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -

The two are separate... so if you ordered the unpacking service, then yes they'd hang your clothes up.
If it were me having a packing service (re the comment about knickers), I'd just pack a simple 2-3 boxes of personal stuff myself ahead of time. Just for knickers, diaries and (say) jewellery/sentimental value stuff. Just because I like my privacy, not because any packers are ever dodgy.

Grimbal, they pffered to pack the towels from the bathroom cupboard but i'd prefer to do that so our bathrooms won't need packing but thanks for the idea. I think I may put our overnight things in there and the hoover and cleaning stuff.
I'll also be making sure we have plenty of tea and biscuits for the men as well....0 -

If the removal company are dismantling the furniture make sure you have an agreement with them (Ideally in writing) that they are reassembling it. If not they may try and charge you extra for it, if you have not taken it apart you may find it difficult to put it back together.
If you have problems with them over agreeing to reassemble, the staff will probably do it for you if you give them a tip0 -

We did that last time we moved - designated 2 bedrooms in which we packed stuff ourselves. The removal firm were brilliant, we just told them which rooms to do and they did the business ten times quicker and better than we could have (we'd learnt from experience with the previous move that you can't get the lounge and dining room packed the afternoon before, and you'll be stood there, red-eyed, grey and shivering at 4.30 a.m. and squabbling with your OH about not remembering what box you put the b****y plates in and they'll be here in two hours...)0 -

I had an ever so helpful packer that on the day of the move packed my cardigan that I had left lying around. Unfortunately it had the car keys in the pocket. By the time I realised the house was fully packed and we didn't have a clue which box the cardigan was in! I wouldn't mind but all the packing was supposed to have been done the day before so why he decided to grab my cardigan I'll never know but learn from my mistake.0

We'll be putting it together as we couldn't afford the unpacking part as well but hubby put it together in the first place...They have sent us a new acceptance form saying that you need to dismantle furniture as necessary but given that we both heard the boss say that he would do it we will make sure they do before they come. They have already made one mistake and nearly caused a hold up so I don't think they'll want to mess us around again. Anyway if they do refuse then they'll be taking it out assesmbled as hubby is away (has an uncanny knack of this around moving time
) in the days before and I can't do it due to my crappy health so it won't be done in time... 0
