Boiler question

Not sure if this is the right forum.

I've not long moved into my house. It has quite an old boiler - an Ocean Style FF. I've done a search an appears to be not the best of its type.
I was going to take out a British Gas service contract but it failed the inspection because of a leaking diverter valve apparently. The BG engineer reckoned I might be better replacing rather than repairing the boiler. It is running fine apart from the - very small - leak and he says it will have no problem getting me through winter.
Question is, as it appears to be working ok is it worth getting repaired. I am going to get some quotes for the job but wondered if anyone good give me a ballpark guess or some advice?

No reliance should be placed on the above.

If you can afford to replace it now, I would recommend you do - if not you will probably throw good money after bad. It will also be wasting over 30p in the pound of the gas it consumes:

    Oceanspa: Ocean : 80ffstyle
gas : combi : non condensing : unknown mounted
17.6 kW SAP seasonal efficiency 70.0%

estimated fuel costs for 2005 (sorry haven't got estimate for 2006)

    Flat Bungalow Terraced Semi-detached Detached
    £249 £316 £327 £367 £505

as opposed to a new ideal icos:

    £201 £253 £262 £293 £400

remember these costs are low due to 2005 figures so expect a bigger difference between the 2 boilers running costs in today's prices (standing charge £8.50, init charge £1.63 - so a lot different now.)

If it's a straight forward replacement and you have a fully pumped system, I guess between £1300 and £1700 depending on where you are in the country and who you use.
