Hi, need some help please!
my brother formatted my hard-drive and reinstalled xp pro before i could backup my work. what options have i got to recover some of my hard drive?
i am hoping not to spend rediculous amounts of cash on a shop to recover my work so i am hoping some software are availiable to do the job. please recommend. thank you.

You'll be lucky to get anything back, try these:

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.html

as albertross says you'll be lucky to get some stuff back as parts of the hard drive have already been overwritten and as a file can be split over parts of the hard drive it only takes one of these sections to be overwritten to stop you getting the file back.
Anyway two of the best progs are
runtimes getdataback
http://www.runtime.org/
or tiramisu
http://www.ontrack.com/
actually they've renamed it easy recover or something but those two are pretty good - its amazing what pics are on supposedly 'new' harddrives
