day 2 building up the compost bin
In the past all we did was dig a hole in the ground and put food waste and some paper mix it up a bit and cover with soil. but we're ran out of space now because my mum is growing all sorts of veg, so much that shes not bothered with flowers much this year in the garden and used the space for yummy food.
we have 2 old fashion plastic compost bins, holes underneath and on the sides all the way round and no lid. i've read up on the net and watched a few youtube videos but there are a few flies hanging around, what am i doing wrong???
there are a few branches at the bottom, loaded it with dried up leaves, grass, food-veg and fruit waste, torn up loads of paper and added some water, mixed it up a bit and put some sheets of newspaper over it to cover it up. there is more of waste and grass etc than paper is that the reason?? or is it normal for flies to be hanging around.

Flies are part of the normal composting process.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
