Globespan Are Changing Our Accommodation - With 3 Days Notice!!!!!

I came home from work this evening to find a message on our answering machine from Globespan. "Please call us urgently regarding a change to your accommodation due to building work"!!! Apparently the Sol Lanzarote are having extractor fans installed in all of their bathrooms and they only thought to let Globespan know this morning - 3 days before we leave.
I couldn't belive it! We booked on the 7th of January, ready to depart this Sunday and they call up with this. The can only offer us a downgraded apartment. A 3* instead of the 4* that we had originally booked. In the past we have stayed at 3* but this year we wanted to treat ourselves and pay extra for some luxury. Also we had paid extra or a sea view and now they say that they can only request it at the new accommodation and that they cannot guarentee it. We are getting £80 per person componsation and the difference back between the 2 hotels. which is another £128.
Do you think this seems enough comonsation for 3 days notice or am ibeig unreasonable to think we should be entiltled to more. My OH even tried to swindle getting upgraded to half board or extra leg room on the plane or refunded for our extra baggage allowance but they say we are getting alot already as the now staying hotel the Sol Morromar was roughly the same price to book when we booked the Sol Lanzarote.
Sorry for ranting I'm just so angry!

are you able to make a claim on travel insurance or anything I think you are entitled to more as its within three days of going away, not sure though and it will depend on policy and what your excess is.0

sorry to hear this, I can understand how disappointing it must be for you with just days to go.
To be honest I'm surprised the hotel mentioned it - hoteliers have a wonderful knack of hiding things and hoping no-one will notice and they won't lose money!
It sounds like you are getting quite a good deal, I'm sure they would have put you in similarly rated accommodation if they could.
The £80 compensation is probably the standard that they are required to pay you under their terms and conditions.
I say go, have a great time, and try not to compare your new accommodation with where you should have been going - it's your holiday, you've worked hard for it so please have fun!0 -

Sounds like tosh to me - if you were running a hotel would you close it down to fit extractor fans (or maybe they're that popular they have 100% occupancy rates..?).0

In November Sol Lanzarote is 64 euro per room, Sol Morromar is 28 euro so hardly the same price0 -

It is the difference as it stands currently. I just think £80 each is a bit crap compensation.0 -
Well I have just called Credit control for my refund - can you believe they weren't gonna refund me to my debit card and said that it would have to be a credit card that it got refunded to. The card I paid with is cancelled and I do not have another credit card, well so I told her anyway. the card I payed with is clear and I want the cash not a deduction off my credit card statement0
