XP home is the operating system, word is part of the Microsoft office application. It doesn't come with office unless you pay for it (it aint cheap).

Try openoffice instead, it's free.

Windows XP is the operating system, Microsoft Word is a software and doesn't automatically come with a new computer. Some companies include it and some don't.
You can buy the software or you can try downloading OpenOffice.0 -
If you're a teacher, student, or parent of a student you can get MS Office cheaper. See http://www.microsoft.com/uk/education/how-to-buy/types-licence/student-and-teacher/
OpenOffice cheaper still, though!0 -

I would not go down that road, OpenOffice can do all what MS office can do, and it is totally free of charge with active help and active community to help you out if you have any problems. If you just want word then AbiWord is a free software which will allow you to do Word Processing only. http://www.abisource.com/
There are alternatives which dont even require any installation on your system but they require internet connection to work. And you have to trust the provider which most people dont.
