Protecting paint on kitchen walls

We have just had a new kitchen fitted and instead of tiling we went for an upstand and painted the rest of the walls.
We used a professional painter and choose a cafe latte coloured matte dulux paint.
Our problem now is getting little splashes on the paint and because its not gloss or silk it doesn't easily wipe off.
Does anyone know of anything we could put over the paint to protect it or make it wipe clean?
In my mind i'm looking for something like 'scotchgard for paint' if that makes sense.
Any suggestions would be very welcome but having spent close to £7k already we don't want to be spending much more money.

Its a shame your decorator didn't point out the kitchen range from Dulux. http://www.dulux.co.uk/products/info/kitchen_plus.jsp0

Our painter is not to blame as we bought the paint he simply painted it on.
I've looked at the colours and am sure we saw them but the colours are quite limiting and we ended up having one mixed for us as it was the only way to get the colour we wanted.
I was hoping there might be some clear product out there that can be painted over the top as some form of protection. It might be wishful thinking but i gotta ask!0 -
You might have been better going for 'endurance' paint from the Diy sheds, or 'Diamond matt' from the dulux centres, its 10 times tougher, and wipes off so easy without leaving that dull mark behind, and does what it says on the tin, and only costs a couple pound more.
I always ask my clients what paint they have or have chosen, then if its kitchen for example I will tell them the pro and cons of the paints, or what paint I would suggest, even if they have already bought the paint, some have taken it back and bought the ones I have recommended.0 -
That's the problem with matt paint, the last one I had was awful. Merely boiling the kettle produced marks. If there isn't a kitchen or bathroom paint in the colour you want I'd suggest one of the scrubbable endurance type ones or a silk finish.
I redid mine a couple of weeks ago with (I think) a B&Q own brand kitchen paint, but I painted over it with an effects type product that has left a sheen. That wipes over well.0 -
Funny how no one has answered the question..... Job has been done, and the OP does not want to pay to have the kitchen redone.
You could try a clear polyvine clear acrylic varnish over the paint work.
VARNISH
Polyvine Decorators Acrylic Varnish is a water-based clear coating specially formulated to protect broken colour work using Acrylic Scumble. Classic Colour and most types of decorative paintwork. Unique UV filters give long-lasting colour protection both inside and outside. A wide range of colours and effects can be obtained by tinting the varnish with
Polyvine Colourisers.Available in dead flat, satin and gloss.
The problem with diamond matt and the likes, is that they are not really matt at all, they give a different finish, this way it should stay matt.
However for future reference some vinyl matts are ok, if you want a matt finish with a little more wipeability, or farrow and ball kitchen paint isnt bad. HTHPawpurrs x0
