FTB offer accepted :-)

Hi, me again :-)

My partner and I have just had an offer accepted for our first house!! We went a little over our budget.... but not too much. The problem is the budget was set because of constraints to our deposit, not paying the actual mortgage..... so does anyone have any money saving tips..... not cutting corners that could see the whole thing fall apart....

Our savings are 11k our deposit is 9850..... not leaving a lot for anything else..... but my dad is going to hire a lorry to cut out removal costs as we are moving an hour away not just up the road. Any other tips would be great..... ie would it be best to use a local solicitor here that we know, or one there that knowd the area?

Thanks everyone :-)
Gemma

Hey. Congratulations on your offer being accepted!

I would get a few quotes off about 3 Solicitors and take it from there. But be warned, the cheapest will not always be the best. I suggest getting a Solicitor in the area you live now. I often had to pop in the offices to drop things off or sign things etc. It will make it easier.

    Congratulations :)

Definately do the moving yourself if you can, you will save a small fortune by not using a removal firm.

Its nice to have a local solicitor but we got a good deal with one a few hours away from us this time and tbh it has been absolutely fine, much of the work has been done by post/email anyway. Make sure you get a fixed price for the solicitor fees to avoid any nasty surprises.
