Hi was wondering if anyone can give me any advice...purchased curtains in a well known shop, got them home and they were too short. When i was taking them out of the packaging the plastic tore down the seam of the packaging (in my opinion this was unavoidable no matter how hard you try not to). Anyway, took them back to shop with my receipt but was told they wont exchange them or give me my money back as the packaging is damaged and the item is now therefore not resaleable. It is their policy that they wont accept items back if not in the origional packaging. They were £70 so its breaking my heart i am now stuck with them plus the manager was a bit stuck up about it! Anyone any info as to what i can do? Thanks

To be honest you should have made sure your measurements were accurate before buying them.
The product is not faulty so unfortunately you have no entitlement to a refund, and as you've said the packaging is ripped to pieces now so they can't really be sold to someone else.
I know this isn't what you want to hear but the responsibility for the curtains not being the correct length is yours alone I'm afraid

Have you measured the curtains to see if they are the correct size as stated on the packet?0

As said even if they were pristine and unopened, you still have no legal right to a refund!Back by no demand whatsoever.0

I work for an independent company, selling curtains.
Our policy is the same depending on damage to packaging. It sounds silly but the packaging does make a big difference when selling a product. When we do our end of year stock take we do a big clearance after and 80% of the items in it are ones that packaging was damaged or lost because they will not sell at full price.
As somebody already said, the company does not have to give you a refund without a fault being present.
We now recommend customers remeasure their window before unpacking every single time we sell a pair and we come across fewer problems now!Slimming World: 1stone 11lbs lost in 11 weeks0 -

Really????
As said you do not have a right to a refund even if they were still in their packaging. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
