Classic car policy, modifications, and reatining NCB.
I have a company Mondeo, and have sold my runabout car, leaving me with just my weekend toy car which is now 17 years old it currently has 4 years NCB on it which will hopefully increase to 5 years in January.
I was considering switching it to a classic car policy, since it's currently with direct line and insured for only 4,000 miles a year anyway. I understand that these policies don't let you gain additional NCB like normal policies, and require you to own a "main" car as well.
I am assuming that the company car should qualify as a main car, but what I want to know it, suppose 3 years down the line, can I take my 5 years NCB off the classic policy and put it back onto a normal policy, or are they just duplicating the NCB and my actual NCB will expire in two years like it would if I just didn't insure a car for that long.
Secondly can anyone recommend a mod-friendly classic car insurer. The car already has different wheels, bigger brakes and a stainless exhaust and I'm planning to do the intake, turbo, intercooler etc. next year. I believe most classic car insurers want you to have a 100% stock car. Oh and it's also a Japanese import just to throw a further spanner in the works.

My 20 year old Jap import has pretty much every major componenet changed-engine,turbo,gearbox,diffs,suspension etc and I got it insured with Richard Egger Insurance with an agreed value and trackday cover for just over £800.
Sky insurance are also good, but don't offer agreed values or track cover.0 -
Some classic policies dont use no claims discounts, So you may lose that.
I have had, Mini's, Range Rovers and MG's all insured for around £100 a year fully comp and
agreed value with salvage rights if you want it back after a claim.
No need for any no claims bonus they dont ask and never build any. Cars must be garaged though.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I currently use need2insure, my last policy was with HIC but that's on a modified 2050

I don't have a garage sadly, so that's out. Just a driveway with another car parked in front of it overnight.0

I don't have a garage, it's reduced the number of companies who will quote but it doesn't rule all out.0

Adrian Flux or Chris Knott.
I had a Capri 2.8i that was a former drag racer. Engine tuned so much you had to drive in town in 1st gear. The only standard thing was the shell. Cost me £40 more than the Capri 2L Laser it replaced. OTTOMH, I think it was £160 with agreed value. Make sure you get a policy with agreed value.0 -
What 1993 car is considered a 'classic' ???
What is your current premium for the vehicle with Direct Line?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Lots of early 90s cars are now being considered classics, stuff like the S13 200SX and R32 Skyline. These originally came out in the late 80s and thus the design is over 20 years old.
Current premium is a little under £400 with 4years NCB, but Direct Line wont cover any further mods.0 -
You should try a specialist broker. I use Nowell and Richards. They specialise in proper cars
