Currys Whatever happens Policy query

Options
Hi all, Ive read many bad things about this policy recently. Was pursuaded by the guy instore when i bought my 32" Samsung LCD in 2008 to take out this policy which cost me around £180 at the time, the TV itself was £799.

While moving items out of my bedroom to decorate i tripped over some washing that was on the top of my stairs causing me to almost fall head first down the stairs with the tv in my arms. Obviously i let go of the TV to save myself falling down them and causing myself an injury but now the TV itself is badly damaged and wont turn on.

I was told at the time of taking out the insurance that something like this would be covered by the policy and that i would be able to get a TV of the equivalent.

Could someone clarify how this all works ? ive seen conflicting comments regarding repair etc. This TV is no longer in production so im doubtful of a repair but dont want to be waiting months to be able to get a new 1.

Thanks in advance.

Dale

    Accidental damage is covered.

Usually they will send it off for repair (or arrange an engineer). If it takes longer than 21 days from informing them (or they find its beyond repair) then you can elect to have it replaced. A team will look at similar models and send vouchers allowing you to go in store and buy a spec for spec replacement.

However, often they under value your items (they will skimp on some features like number of ports etc) so check to see if its enough for like-for0like, if not go instore anyways and they can arrange extra vouchers over the phone.

Thank you very much for the speedy reply. Because of the massive price drop in TV's since i purchased mine would the vouchers i get enable me to get a higher spec TV ? My brother has just bought a Sony 40" from Currys which is now retailing at £100 less than what i paid for my TV and if they are unable to repair mine id love to be able to get 1 like his. Are the vouchers worked out on how much i paid for the item or just todays equivalent eg. My old TV - Samsung 32" 1080p (old model) for Samsung 32" 1080p (new model of same TV). I wouldnt complain to much about that but would be a little miffed at not getting the full value i spent back, especially considering the high cost of the cover.

    Again thanks.

its calculated spec for spec so you have a right to demand the cheapest tv that has the same specs (or better if needs be) You can always opt to put extra in if you fancy an upgrade.

So if yours is 720p with 3 hdmis at 50hz, and they have one the same brand, same size and same details, and was £200 cheaper, thats still all your entitled to (its designed to put you in the same position).

I know this because a year or so back i made a claim on an old hp laptop worth circa £800 (was on offer and was end of line and ex display). Obviously the discounts meant i had a very good laptop for the price, so when it came to replacing, i got a brand spanking new sony vaio fw laptop worth £1200+.

They offered another laptop worth £1000 but i objected because the the webcam was .3 mp worse. So if you really learn your specs you can make a killing.

It's possible it may still be repaired. Vouchers are issued only if it's uneconomical to repair, or if the repair takes longer than the time specified.
