Can anyone help ?
We have recently had a problem in that when it has been raining heavily our fuse for the sockets etc in the house keeps blowing. This caused us a huge problem when we came back from holiday recently to find it had happened and had been off for 1.5 weeks ! Fridges and Freezers full of rotten food
We have not had this since beginning of July but today we have had heavy rain and thuderstorms and it has gone of twice
Any tips on how we can try and find the problem without calling in an expensive electrician !!!
thnx

It seems fairly obvious that water is getting into your consumer unit or elsewhere into your downstairs ring main. Where is it and are there visible signs of water coming in?
You need to prevent the water getting in and then really need to have the wiring checked over.
How old is the wiring/CU?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Power running to a garage or shed ? A fuse (1) for the downstairs socket should not effect the kitchen ring main for the fridge/freezers. How is yours wired then?
Isolate a ring main and see how it goes, but you will need to know how and as you are asking it sounds like you don't. Get someone in.0 -
Any outside lights or sockets, pond pump etc, electric to outbuildings connected to the affected circuit as these are obviously exposed to the elements more than anything else?0

Also when you say "fuse is blowing" ..is it an old rewireable fuse or a resettable switch...or is it the main switch on the consumer unit. I would have thought if there is RCD protection it would trip before MCBs do and therefore take down every circuit that the RCD is protecting (which could include a kitchen ring main).0

Interesting - not during the rain, but after the rain....
how long after?0 -

I think a builder, roofer or a plumber who can do leadwork is more than likely the best course of action....
I loved you comment by the way.... Its the first one to make me smile today...
Not that I have read many yet... :rotfl:Not Again0
