Crown Paint / base coat

Hello All,

Sorry for the repetition here as there is a similar question earlier on, but I dont quite get it.

Ok, so we are repainting our hallways with Crown Matt Emulsion (Soft Linen) colour . Problem is its going over quite a dark colour and I think it may need 3 coats. At 26 pounds/5l this wont be cheap.

So my question is, can I initially use a cheap white Matt paint, like a B&Q Matt White Value paint as a base coat (to cover the darker colour) and then paint with my Crown on top?

Any help much appreaciated. We missed the 1/2 price Crown paint offer, so gutted!! :-)

Thanks!!!

well if you use a cheap paint you will probably have to give it 10 coats compared to 1 coat of decent stuff , although according to their advert wickes own brand has been given the thumbs up by the painters who tested it - don't get th homebase value stuff , you might just as well paint it with water

Wickes own paint is awful, it doesnt cover

B&Q own brand isnt too bad just to blot out the old existing colour, I would buy a decent make, as I would imagine you would be painting the hallway ceiling as well, in white perhaps, so you you wouldnt waste any white there.
I think you might have to give the dark colour 2 coats though, then 2 coats of your linen, it will be well worth it.:D
