I changed from Quarterly Whole Bill Direct Debit to Monthly Whole Bill Direct Debit so that I would no longer be lending BT £33+ for 3 months every 3 months.
There's no way I'm going to lend them £130+ for 12 months even if a small price reduction results.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
2 out of the 3 times we've made the mistake of using BT, we had problems with billing.
About a third of complaints to phone companies are about billing.
So given it's something they struggle with, for the sake of convenience and *if* it offers a discount, and you want or have to go with BT, then I'd have said it's a fair option and slightly increases the chance of making it through the contract without a dispute.0 -

It depends on the way you look at it.
Do you pay your house insurance or car insurance annually or monthly?
I prefer to pay both these insurances annually and put the amount away monthly myself for the next year. That way I avoid what amounts to 25%/30% APR to have the privilege of paying monthly.
If you think about the BT Line Saver in the same way, you are paying an APR of 26.87% for the privilege of paying it monthly.
Yes the 1st year it costs you money upfront but subsequent years I save.0 -
If you pay up front and cancel part way through the year how much money does BT give you back?
In June OFCOM announced low exit charges - see elsewhere on this site for details. Is what BT is doing an attempt to get around these or not?0 -

You dont get anything about look at the T&C .0 -
According to http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13962/c/761,2071,2087
no refunds are given, and for me I would be out of my money until month #9.0 -
I too have now checked the BT web site and Advance payment is non-refundable as already stated in replies.
So in return you are giving up new low exit charges which were only just won for you from BT by OFCOM and which most people are still unaware will come into force very soon.
You may also be giving up protection from BT making changes - currently you can exit a BT contract without any charge if they make a change to your material disadvantage. Under the Line Saver scheme the Advance payment is non-refundable so what happens in such circumstances?0
