Private parking rising costs as letters progress

Has any one experienced the following please? We're now on to letter 3 - the passing of the fines to Newlyn to recover, and the cost has gone up and up with each letter. It started off at £45, second letter was £90, and with the third we've reached £178 - surely to god this is extorsion not a fine!! We've ignored everything as per the advice of all - but just wonder what costs they are hoping to get with the next letter. It is unbelieveable how they can get away with the threats, and these ever increasing costs - where do they get the figures from??

Yes, you are correct. It is extortion or to be rather more correct a complete scam. They are able to get away with this sort of ramping up of costs because they know all too well that there will be a substantial majority of recipients who will pay simply to make it all go away. As for where they get the figures from I suspect that someone in their offices has an abacus they allow the beads to randomly slide along onMy very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -

You're right its not a fine but ATTEMPTED extortion. It's only extortion if you pay. They could ask for ten grand if they wanted to, it doesn't make it any more enforceable. Which is why they never go near a court.0 -
Is it even legal?? If this went to court would the court really uphold this kind of ramping of costs when ever and where ever???0

It is legal to send invoices. A court would not uphold the original amount or any subsequent add ons because it is likely to be an unenforceable contractual penalty.
Thing is, they won't be going to court and the scam is only effective if you believe that they will.
The ever-increasing phantom amount is just one tool in the scamster's box of tricks.0
