Insuring empty house

Hi all

Sorry if this appears twice, I thought I'd posted it earlier but it doesn't seem to have worked.

My family moved house at the weekend, and unusually were able to move into the new one before selling our old one, leaving the old one empty until it's sold.

Our previous insurer says they won't insure empty properties, so are cancelling the Buildings cover. I've heard a similar story from other insurers.

Does anyone know who would be good to approach? Does our mortgage company HAVE to give us buildings insurance if no-one else will? The outstanding mortgage is only £1, so they don't actually have a lot to lose if it burns down (unlike me!!)

Thanks
