Obtaining recepit

Our local Costcutter never give out a recepit for purchases. The display on the till is obscured so you can't see what prices are going through.
They said it is up the customer to ask for a receipt.
I would have thought they should offer a recepit and it is up to the customer to decline.
In every other shop/garage I am given a receipt, although the Co-Op have started to ask if I require one... I always say yes!
Does anyone know what the law is regarding this?

There's no law that a receipt must be given but any supplier who is charging VAT cannot refuse to issue one when requested.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Why are you making a fuss?
If you want a receipt then ask for one and by your own admission they'll happily give you one, if someone doesn't want a receipt then they don't provide one.
As for it being "the law" that all purchases must be accompanied by a receipt, do you honestly expect receipts to be given out by law when someone buys a packet of chewing gums or a newspaper or a can of Coke?
If this shop you're taking about was refusing point blank to give out receipts then fair enough, kick up a stink, but to make a fuss when you can just ask them and they'll provide one smacks of making an issue where there is none if you ask me.
