On life of grime once they did an experiement which showed that oddly rats are attracted to the scent of rabbit urine. Even if you clean regularly wooden hutches absorb smells really badly. I use a solution of warm water and white vinegar on mine regularly. It also helps deter flys so helps to prevent flystrike. And in true money saving expert style as a natural disinfectant it is much cheaper than buying commercial sprays.

You have a Jack Russell. A ratting dog. Problem solved.
    :rotfl:

My supposedly rat catching terrier watches squirrels and mice run past him without moving a muscle! He's great at catching spiders but shows no desire to hunt anything bigger.

If the OP has a Jack Russell capable of catching the rats I'd also be seriously concerned for the bunny's safety!

Mine all use litter trays too but I'm a stickler for cleanliness when it comes to my bunnies. If you have ever seen them pee they back up so close to the edge of the tray I wouldn't be surprised if some of it missed the tray. I lightly spray my hutches with a water/vinegar solution every week and every so often on a sunny summer day I give them a good rinse and leave them dry.
