Good info Artful - perhaps the OP would confirm that the property rented by her daughter *is* in Scotland? (just because the OP is, doesn't necessarily follow that daughter's home is;))

She is 4 miles from me, up in the border hills. She has been and can at any time come to me for baths or laundry :o but it's still making her miserable. This seemed such a lovely house in a truly fantastic spot... but now we found the fly in the jar of ointment eh !
We have had a very weird summer, quite dry with not much rain here at all. But lots of very dull gloomy days with grey low cloud, and it was 13 degrees here earlier.

i lived in a house up a mountain in Wales with intermittent water supply from its spring for 3 years, we ended up having to carry water up in a trailer in 5 gallon containers for the animals and go to friends and the local swimming pool for showers...

if there aint no water, there aint no water.... no amount of digging will find it....

i suggest OP negotiates an early release and finds another house.....

    ok many thanks x
  • OH how we know what it is like , we rented a farmers cottage with a private supply it supplied 7 homes our landlord including yours are paid to provide water to the homes if he fails in his duty he can be stopped from providing water and mains will be installed at his cost. Now if you complain to him he will not renew your agreement . Our supply over 17 years stopped 2 - 3 times a year for 1 day up to 6 days . NO not nice and these landlords should be sued until the cows come home . I remember going to complain and his wife was washing her car she said tough , you cant reason with pigs like that. Our water stopped because he irrigated the fields there is a reason and Im sure he knows what it is .
