Going on long trip this weekend and realised car is making a bit of a funny noise. And realised its been 16000 miles since last oil change...
Any of the national companies do oil changes? How much?

Look in the Yellow Pages and ring round some local independent garages.0

16000 miles without an oil change:eek:, I would get an AA or RAC Membership.0

Any of the ATS / National / Kwik Fit places will do it for about £30

Go to halfords and buy what you need, along with an oil filter, failing that phone up the local garage and see if they can fit you in (fwiw if it's already making a funny noise I'd be joining the AA for £7 with 21 cashback deal before I left!)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
Balance 19th April '07 = minus £27,640
Balance 1st November '09 = mortgage paid off with £1903 left over. Title deeds are now ours.0 -

I change mine every 5000 miles, money well spent.;)0 -
Unless your oil is very low I doubt that the funny noise is caused by the fact you've not done an oil change on time. Have you checked the oil level on the dipstick?0

16k without oil change can be quite normal depending on the car, some vehicles on long life flexi servicing can go up to 20-25k so long as long life oil is used.
personally i would not bother with all that on my own car but it is recommended intervals on some German stuff.
as for the noise i would get oil changed and see how it is may just be noisy hydraulic lifters because of oil condition.
leave the kwik fits and the like alone and get in touch with a local proper garage where the mechanic/s stand a chance of actually being qualified past level 1 nvq;)
out of interest what car is it?0 -
