Am I being a good neighbour, money saver or stupid?

When we bought the house every piece of garden had been covered over with pebbles. Yesterday I was pulling up paving slabs at the front of the house because of a drainage issue a neighbour asked what I intended to do with the pebbles. I explained they were being taken up eventually but no real plans. The guy then asks if he can have them. Now there must be at least three to four tons of these pebbles and we do need to clear them to start to bring the soil to life for next year. Now he asks if I want the sand under the paving slabs I pulled up (which will also bw garden again) and I dont however I am starting to think that this guy is going to be selling it on. Since I am sat inside and it is pouring it down while he is bagging up all these pebbles and sand plus the fact it is saving me about three days of time and back ache should I feel conned or happy?

as long as he was doing the work instead of me and he actually clears all of them and doesn't leave half a job done I would be happy - would make no difference to me if he was selling them on, as I guess you had no intention of doing this anyway and so aren't losing out financially0

Sounds like an excellent piece of re-cycling to me (and a skip to take it away would have cost you a fortune). This way everyone wins
Well done!!I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -
He may be selling them and I can see why the idea might not be very comfortable but if he hadn't dug them up what would you have done with them?
I guess it isnt too late to call a hault to the whole thing, adn tell him that you actually need some of them and then try to sell them yourself, if you do a builders would be a good place to start.0 -
I did tell him that I need half of one of the plots because my wife called me and was frantic saying how she has promised some to a friend at work. I suppose it is fair nough since he is doing all the work so he has earnt any reward he could reap from it. I still need a skip any hoo but at least this is a load off my mind. Now all I got to do is find a guy to swap a load of mud for top-soil and the garden is set for planting next year. lol0
