Because people who work in TV statistically have a higher claims rate

    Ripoff rule reconfirmed yet again

insurance rip off because insurance companies charge more for covering higher risks.

How disgraceful that insurance companies charge more for higher risks. You would think that they would charge low risk people more and high risk people less as that is a much more sound business model

  • I just manged to get an agent to admit that its because i know famous people and if i have an accident with them in the car it could cost more ??????

when i pointed out that what if they were my freind and it had nothing to do with work she was well yes but thats diffrent ??????

so i think the rule is they are ripping us off because they realised they can

wrong but as usual when has that stopped them

It's one of many reasons. Most insurers flat-out refuse to insure professional sportsmen / entertainers simply because there are huge cost implications - lost performance related pay, lost endorsements, lost contracts, etc.

The other reasons, as mentioned, include accident and claim statistics. It's no different to insurers basing prices on age or where you live.

OK to put it a bit more bluntly it's because taken as a group (saying nothing about individuals) people who work in TV are bad/careless drivers as compared to other groups in the population. As to why that's so, pass, but it undisputedly is so.

I really don't think that a sales agent would have had any training in how to explain it

What sort of programs do you work on ?

I ask this as I have found it is possible to talk certain Insurers around to offer cover (Who would not normally cover entertainment) or reduce the load for people in lower risk entertainment. I managed this on wildlife cameramen and panorama as I explained to the Insurers they did not come into contact with any high earning stars and they lived a normal life
  • Insurance companis are all ripoff's who use "statistics" to generate their prices. It's just the way it is, and I don't think there's plans for it changing anytime soon, lol.

Insurers cannot control who you befriend and thus cant quantify any potential risks based on friends. However they can for your occupation and see you as having high cost passangers in your car, hence they ask your occupation and not who your friends are.
