Parking Ticket - Urgent Advice Required!

I need some urgent advice on a parking ticket I received over the weekend.

I live in a residential permitted area (for which I have a valid parking permit)

I went to a show on Sunday and did not get back to my house until 2am, and could find no where to park, literally no where.

There are around ten parking bays outside my house with room on the end to park another 3/4 cars, but there are double yellow lines marked here. After spending about 30 mins driving round looking for a space, I gave up and parked on the double yellows, set my alarm for 7.30am to move my car into a free space.

At 7.08 on Monday morning I received a parking ticket from a traffic warden working for the council.

Is there anything I can do to contest this as there were no spaces to park in?

I obviously know parking on double yellows is a no no, and not something I would normally do, but at 2am, with the intention of moving the vehicle first thing, it seems a little extreme.

Any help / advice, before I crumble and pay the £35 fine?

I've had a look at the Top 10 contest list, but can't see anything that is relevant, has anyone had any luck with anything similar?

Any help or advise would be most appreciated!:)

First copy/photo/scan both sides of the ticket and remove personal details. Host on tinypic and copy the url into a post. Get pics of the bays/lines etc and host again. Hopefully the council ticket is flawed as they often are.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

What the heck is the Top 10 contest list? Some out-of-date Top 10 reasons to contest a PCN?

But top answer your question: YES, lots of people have had success with contesting a Council PCN on various points (often procedural impropriety on the part of the Council).

As PTP says, post up both sides of your PCN please, just blank out your car ID and PCN number. You may also need to post it on a new thread on pepipoo.com here, where the real experts are (they succeed in the VAST MAJORITY of cases):

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
