hi i phoned tax credit on the 10th of june 2010 as i noticed that my husband was not on my renewal when i told them theytold me that i never notified them of the change but i notified them on the 7th november 2009 and on the review my name had changed from my maiden name to my married name, they then told me that i would have to make a whole new claim as a couple i have been without tax credit now for 7wks and for the past 3wks they keep telling me that it is in the award process and that they cannot give me a timescale on how long it is going to be,plus they have recently sent me a letter telling me i owe the 2500 overpayment because i never notified them when clearly i did as it shows on my award please help its driving me crazy as myself and my husband do not work and we have 4 children any advise would be grateful thx from depressed mom

If you contact your local MP, they have their own MP Hotline number to HMRC who can move your claim forward.
A few years ago, I had a problem with a break in my payments and was getting nowhere on calling the helpline. As soon as the MP got involved and I made a complaint to the Parliamentary Ombudsman, it soon got sorted out.

Up to their usual tricks of denying you contacted them.
And as they're such a big government office its hardly worth the fight to put your case right, they wont listen and will drag their feet until you eventually give up or find one hell of a MP who will help you fight your corner.
