I'm guessing here but as long as you can prove you've had an offer of an interview to get the people at JCP off your back do you actually need to go, to keep your benefits.

Yes, you do. Otherwise your benefit can be stopped.
  • Interesting as I am a recruitment manager for a small management consultancy. I have worked here for nearly two years, and have never had a no-show without some explanation or prior notice!

No shows by the interviewers, however, are sadly more common...

I would imagine a lot of it depends on the industry. Could you imagine somebody who has worked their way up to a Director position, simply not turning up to an interview for a £300,000/year role? Or an Architect doing a no-show? A trainee-dentist? It just wouldn't happen.

However, some 16 year old who likes to drink White Lightening down the local park, well, he may or may not turn up to his interview for his measly £12/hour at Tesco.

You said it for me; more likely it would be one of those 'meets minimum wage' opportunities.

It can be very frustrating. About a month ago, we even had one woman not turn up after we had specially arranged to hold the interview at 6pm so she could come after work. No phone call, no apology, only two very angry people who could have gone home at 5pm.

I once had 8 interviews booked in a day. 3 didn't turn up. 1 didn't have the necessary paperwork to prove it was legal for him to work in the UK. 1 had no driving licence, but had applied for a job as a Driver anyway. And 1, when I asked him why he wanted the job, said "I don't, but the people at the Job Centre said I had to come anyway".

Not the most satisfying day's work I've ever had!

I have been doing interview for some weeks now for IT people. Still amazed at the lack of interview technique.
Interviewed a graduate yesterday for a job. We are a small company and taking on a graduate is a big investment for us.

"What do you see yourself doing in a years time ?" I asked.
" Well I am still not sure whether to go on and do an MSC at university. Would you sponsor me ?

    Even better

" What attributes can you bring to the company?"
" Well, there will be stuff I have learned at university that your IT developers might not know, so I could teach them things...."

lol oh to be be young and carefree again :)

This perhaps should be on the vent board but just had to let this go!

I have been interviewing all day today and I had more people not turn up than actually did!! Why would you say yes to an interview on the phone, then confirm by email on Friday/Saturday then not turn up!!

I am so annoyed! I have wasted time waiting around for people that I could have made more productive!

Sorry about that. I feel better now!

What goes around comes around !!!!!. Now you know how we interviewees feel when we go for interviews at companies like yours' and sometimes you never even have the courtesy to let us know of the outcome !!

Either that's a typo, or you're a little out of touch with supermarkets' pay scales!

I didn't realise that Tesco paid an hourly rate similar to that of teachers, police officers, social workers, early-career lawyers, graduate schemes, etc. ;)

Your average shelf stacker or till operative would earn half of that.
