Faulty Printer

I bought an HP2480 printer from Cartridge Point in May this year which has developed a problem, I still have my receipt. After using the HP self help to diagnose the problem I found out it has a fatal error. I went back to the shop and have been told they do not replace faulty goods without a returns reference from HP - I contacted HP who could not help as I did not have my printer serial number to hand, however was told that they did not issue returns reference numbers. Where do I stand

Why don't you have the serial number to hand?
Get that & ring HP again .... raise a fault with them ... see if they can sort out.
OR ...
take back to store & demand they sort - SOGA should cover you - but they can do 1 of 3 things - replace / repair / refund - their choice ....

Wasn't sure if SOGA covered me will get someone to print off Martin's Consumer Rights mini guide and take it with me - wish me luck0
